Hallway in the headquarter of the former Military Order of Saint Michael in the Electoral Palace (now University of Bonn, Germany main building). Quis ut Deus? (or Quis sicut Deus?), a Latin sentence meaning "Who [is] like God?", is a literal translation of the name Michael (Hebrew: מִיכָאֵל, transliterated Micha'el or Mîkhā'ēl).
Michael means "Who is like God?" (a rhetorical question), Gabriel means "Power of God" or "Strong One of God" and Raphael means "God has healed". [2] Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael are named in the Bible as angels. (Roman Catholics accept as canonical the Book of Tobit, in which Raphael is named.) Only Michael is called an archangel in the Bible.
Michael, [Notes 1] also called Saint Michael the Archangel, Archangel Michael and Saint Michael the Taxiarch [6] [dead link ] is an archangel in Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and the Baháʼí Faith.
The Book of Revelation refers to this same battle, recalling before our eyes the image of St Michael the Archangel (cf. Revelation 12:7). [49] The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) interprets the term "archangel" as meaning "Chief Angel", [50] Michael is the only individual so designated in the Latter Day Saints canon. [51]
Archangel Michael is commonly depicted holding scales to weigh the souls of people on Judgement Day.. The weighing of souls (Ancient Greek: psychostasia) [1] is a religious motif in which a person's life is assessed by weighing their soul (or some other part of them) immediately before or after death in order to judge their fate. [2]
The term archangel itself is not found in the Hebrew Bible or the Christian Old Testament, and in the Greek New Testament the term archangel only occurs in 1 Thessalonians 4 (1 Thessalonians 4:16) and the Epistle of Jude (), where it is used of Michael, who in Daniel 10 (Daniel 10:12) is called 'one of the chief princes,' and 'the great prince'.
