The first lighthouse keeper was a young man from Curaçao named Jacob Jacobs. Jacobs had learned the profession of a lighthouse keeper at another lighthouse on the small island of Klein Curaçao. Faro Castillo del Morro is a lighthouse located in Havana, Cuba. It was built in 1845 on the ramparts of the Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro, an old fortress guarding the harbor of Havana. The lighthouse has a height of 25 metres (82 ft), a focal height of 44 metres (144 ft) and displays two white flashes every 15 seconds (Fl.(2) 15s).

Aruba Phosphate Company at Seroe Colorado had a poorly equipped lighthouse in 1880. The tower had a square cross-section but tapered from the bottom to top. [ 2 ] This lighthouse had a petroleum lantern mounted on a wooden structure, [ 3 ] and the coastal lighting was inadequate.
