Use Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment in the United States. All U.S. employers must properly complete Form I-9 for every individual they hire for employment in the United States. This includes citizens and noncitizens.

The revised Form I-9 (edition date 08/01/23) will be published on uscis.gov on Aug. 1, 2023. Employers can use the current Form I-9 (edition date 10/21/19) through Oct. 31, 2023. Starting Nov. 1, 2023, all employers must use the new Form I-9.
Starting Nov. 1, you can only use Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, with the 08/01/2023 edition date.
Employees who select "a noncitizen authorized to work" must enter one of the following to complete Section 1: USCIS Number/A-Number (7 to 9 digits); Form I-94 Admission Number (11 digits); or. Foreign Passport Number and the Country of Issuance.
