The reserve extends seaward a distance of about 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) around a headland named Snapper Point from Thomas Street, Aldinga Beach in the south and Seaborne Avenue, Port Willunga in the north. Great Australian Bight Marine Park Whale Sanctuary was a marine protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located immediately off the coastline of the Great Australian Bight in waters about 790 km (491 mi) west-northwest of the state capital of Adelaide.
On 8 December 1963, whilst participating in the 1963 South Australia Spearfishing Championship at Aldinga Beach, Fox was attacked by a great white shark, and badly bitten around the chest and arm.
The conservation park consists of land in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Willunga consisting of section 821 and land identified as allotments 4, 14, 15 and 100. It came into existence on 7 November 1985 by proclamation under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 in respect to section 821.
Aldinga / ɔː l ˈ d ɪ ŋ ɡ ə / is a suburb of Adelaide in South Australia located about 45 kilometres (28 miles) south of the Adelaide city centre in the City of Onkaparinga.It is a small suburb (population around 573 in 2016), about a kilometre east of the edge of the larger suburb of Aldinga Beach, and about 3 km (1.9 mi) from the beachfront.
