Mersing District Council (Malay: Majlis Daerah Mersing) is the local authority of the whole Mersing District including Mersing town.It was formed on 26 May 1977 through the merger of the Mersing Town Council (Malay: Majlis Bandaran Mersing) and the local councils (Malay: Majlis Tempatan) of Jemaluang, Kampung Hubong, Kampung Pengkalan Batu, Kampung Sri Pantai and Mersing Kecil.
In 1911, the state government of Johor collaborated with the British colonial government to develop a road network from Johor Bahru to Batu Pahat and Muar. [12] As a result, the Batu Pahat–Kluang–Mersing Road was completed in 1919, [ 9 ] where the section from Jemaluang to Mersing formed a part of the present-day Federal Route 3. [ 1 ]
Endau Rompin National Park is located on the Johor-Pahang border (The park takes its name from the Endau and Rompin rivers that flow through the park. It is the second largest national park in Peninsular Malaysia after Taman Negara, covering 489 km 2 with approximately 26 km of jungle trails within the park.
The "Mersing" name is derived from the Chinese "Mau Sheng Port" (茂盛港) since 1880 and further simplify to Mersing. Mersing's Chinese name was renamed to "Feng Sheng Port" (丰盛港), with the meaning of good harvest. There are also said that Mersing's name is derived from Sikh traders who named Amir Singh and Men Singh. [3]

Its corals, lagoons and offshore pools make it a tourist attraction. It has for many years also been a frequent stopover point for fishermen.
