The 2008 US Open was a tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts.It was the 128th edition of the US Open, and the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. It took place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York City, United States, from August 25 through September 8, 2008.
Four-time defending champion Roger Federer defeated Andy Murray in the final, 6–2, 7–5, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2008 US Open. It was his fifth US Open title and 13th major title overall, as well as his only successful title defense in the majors that year (after losing at the Australian Open and Wimbledon).
Serena Williams defeated Jelena Janković in the final, 6–4, 7–5 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2008 US Open. It was her third US Open singles title and ninth major singles title overall. This was also her second US Open and third major overall won without losing a set during the tournament.
