It was a significant amount of damage–$7,200 in repairs in a car that sells for about $11,500 in my area. I ran a VIN check on my car last week and found that it is recorded as “VEHICLE REPORTED AS TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE LOSS CAUSED BY COLLISION.”. It gives the correct date of the accident and cause. However, the car is repaired and sitting ...
General Discussion. nikkolaus December 5, 2017, 10:59am 1. A vehicle was given to my mother for free many months ago, and I snapped a photo of the engine and VIN, with hopes in finding more info about the car, and worth. However, I have completely forgotten the Make/Model. Can you decode this 12-digit car VIN for me? 2T87R3130516.
I am an old duffer now, but I had my dream ride when I was 18 in 1970 - a 1964 Oldsmobile 442 - first year for the muscle-car model. Yellow with a white top, black leather, 4-speed, 4-barrel, dual-exhaust, and all the engine any red-blooded boy could want. I averaged 6 mpg, but gas wax < 50 cents/gallon. And I looked darned GOOD behind the wheel! As a teen in the 70s, I was better at smokin ...
A “factory new” engine on a used car will tend to INCREASE value, but by an amount considerably less than the market value of the engine. A “150,000 mile car” would be worth less than a “150,000 mile car…with 10,000 miles on a factory reman.” (In fact, cars with brand new engines and trannies tend to BRAG about the fact in the ...
TwinTurbo January 29, 2023, 3:11pm 2. There is no central repository for vehicle history recording. AFAIK, you can’t backtrack a replacement engine S/N to an original VIN. And the VIN may include a reference to the engine type but not specifics. The “build sheet” may have that information. In the olden days, that was a separate piece of ...
I bought a car at a nationally televised auction. Not the car I was looking at but was caught up in the bidding. I won the bidding on this one. I bought some parts for it and realized the VIN was for a 1966 Chevy II sedan. The car was a coupe. The Vin was swapped. The sellers agreement stated “CARS WITHOUT A VIN OR INCORRECT VIN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE SALE”. A sticker was placed on ...
However, once the car is old enough–such as 10 years or more–a person looking to buy private-party isn’t going to bother with Carfax. As long as the car looks good and runs well, that will be sufficient. I have bought many used cars in the $2000-3000 range, and never once paid to run a Carfax (or similar) report.
Turns out the door was replaced due to a wreck, and the wrong VIN was on the door plate. The emissions test machine took the VIN as scanned for the junked donor car. Also, the VIN appears on a plate under the hood on some models, and there are hidden VIN locations on the car as well to try and thwart thieves and swindlers.
Duplicate Title and Value of Car. The Show. hoops23333 July 15, 2012, 11:00pm 1. Hi, I’m looking to buy a used 2007 BMW 328i coupe from a private party. If BB val is $3000 now, reasonable guess of $3500 then, +/-200 or so. ok4450 January 21, 2010, 5:20pm 6. Basing a vehicle value on condition may not be entirely accurate either because the majority of opinions on their personal cars are usually subjective rather than objective. A determination of excellent condition may mean good, good may mean ...
