As copper is on trend, I've fished out an old copper baskety thing that was mum's. I hated cleaning it when I was young but would like to put it on the chest in the hall. However, it is really, really, really tarnished and using the proprietary copper cleaner is going to take so long it will have gone back out of fashion before I get it clean.
I have bought some very pretty cake forks from Ebay but they are quite badly tarnished - well, either that or they have been worn by too much cleaning in the past. I have tried dipping in "Silver Dip" & I think they actually look worse Any ideas please? I have seen various things on the internet about soaking EPNS with silver foil
They are heavily tarnished and black, the brass ones have got a black/brown tarnish. A jeweller took one look at them ? and said he wouldn't get be able to get them clean. I have cleaned them with jewellery cleaner, toothpaste, even left them for a couple of days in coco cola.
I’d avoid water with silk. (Hermes gives strict instructions about this.) I’ll fess up that I’m a silk fiend - can’t resist it!

Thankfully, I’ve not much on today, other than taking a friend to collect her car and picking up an item of dry cleaning for DD1, which I’ll drop off later.

Sadly I don't think EPNS cutlery is collectible or valuable nowadays. Just shop around and get what you can for it. I am in the same boat along with others of the same age, our children are not interested in fine china or silver cutlery. I have one daughter who is heavily into antiques so she will get mine sooner rather than later.
Getting up. I'm not enjoying not getting up, though - I'm all on edge about all the things I'm supposed to be doing.
Know the difference between cleaning and disinfecting with antibacterial sprays. They talked about the importance of clearing up (mess, dog poo etc) before you start to disinfect places where they were. The dangers of using a cloth or sponge to wipe surfaces down if you don’t clean the cloth afterwards (top layer of the dishwasher is good).
The barrier is impregnated with copper I pulled up any roots that I could find in my garden, luckily distinctive. Not had a problem since, next door still has the passion-flower and I put a copper solution down between barrier and wall every year or so
