NC 343 begins at the intersection of Wharf Road (SR 1104) and Texas Road (SR 1100) in Old Trap. Going in an northwesterly direction and parallel to Pasquotank River to its west, it goes through the communities of Alder Branch, Shiloh and Taylors Beach. Passing through Camden, it links with U.S. Route 158 (US 158).
Camden is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Camden County, North Carolina, United States. It is the county seat of Camden County, a consolidated city-county. At the 2020 census, the population was 620. Camden is located on the eastern banks of the Pasquotank River, across from which lies Elizabeth City.

Dismal Swamp State Park is a North Carolina state park in Camden County, North Carolina, in the United States. The park was created as a state natural area in 1974 with the help of The Nature Conservancy, and on July 28, 2007, the North Carolina General Assembly re-designated it as a state park. [4] It opened to the public in 2008. [5]

In 1912 a steel truss bridge engineered by the Rudisills was built across the Henry River. When built, it was reputed to be the highest bridge in the state. During the 1916 flood this bridge was one of the few not destroyed. In 1960 a new concrete bridge replaced the steel truss bridge. The Henry River Mill originally ran on waterpower.
