Houston is an unincorporated community in Winston County, Alabama, United States. [2] It was the county seat from 1858 until 1884, when the seat was moved to Double Springs . [ 3 ] Houston has one site on the National Register of Historic Places , the log Houston Jail .

[8] The Constitution of Alabama requires that any new county in Alabama cover at least 600 square miles (1,600 km 2) in area, effectively limiting the creation of new counties in the state. [9]
