The Himeyuri students (ひめゆり学徒隊, Himeyuri Gakutotai, Lily Princesses Student Corps), sometimes called "Lily Corps" in English, was a group of 222 students and 18 teachers of the Okinawa Daiichi (First) Girls' High School [] and Okinawa Shihan Women's School [] formed into a nursing unit for the Imperial Japanese Army during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.
Iwakuni Junior College (岩国短期大学, Iwakuni tanki daigaku) is a private junior college in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi, Japan. The school was established in 1971 as a women's junior college. In 1998 it became coeducational.
The prefecture also operates one special education school for the handicapped. The private Iwakuni Junior College is located in Iwakuni. One high school, Iwakuni-Kogyo, is the alma mater of Shinji Mori who was a Major League Baseball player with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2005. He was part of the 1993 graduating class. [14]
