New Bedford's first newspaper, The Medley (also known as the New Bedford Marine Journal), was founded in 1792. [17] On June 12, 1792, the town set up its first post office. The Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE, also known as WHALE, is a non-profit historic preservation organization located in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Its mission is: "to promote the value and reuse of greater New Bedford's historic structures through preservation, education and advocacy".
