In 1975 three local schools, including Earls Colne Grammar School, Halstead Grammar School [1] and Halstead Secondary School, amalgamated into the Ramsey School, as part of the re-organisation of schooling along comprehensive lines. The school was named after Dame Mary Ramsey, a 16th-century local educational philanthropist.
Halstead is a town and civil parish in the Braintree District of Essex, England. Its population of 11,906 in 2011 [ 1 ] was estimated to be 12,161 in 2019. [ 3 ] The town lies near Colchester and Sudbury , in the Colne Valley .
