From 1922 to 1926, US 65 in Missouri was known as Route 3.US 65 originally followed Route 248 and US 160 between Branson and Springfield.Route 3 was originally planned on a shorter route between Springfield and Preston, with Route 71 on the longer alignment via Buffalo, but Route 3 was quickly shifted east, absorbing Route 71.

Troop D, 16th Quartermaster Squadron, activated 15 January 1941 at Fort Ringgold, Texas.The troop traveled with the division throughout its World War II campaigns in the Pacific theater earning campaign credit for Bismarck Archipelago, Leyte, Luzon, and New Guinea as well as two Meritorious Unit Commendations for actions in support of the 1st Cavalry Division.
On 15 February 1968, the regiment was reorganized to consist of Troop D, a non-divisional unit at Jackson, [1] part of the 131st Aviation Battalion at Hawkins Field. [2] The 1968 reorganization resulted in the 1st Squadron, 98th Cavalry being reorganized as the 2nd Battalion, 198th Armor.
