Powershifting, also known as full-throttle shifting or flat-shifting, is a method of gear shifting used with manual transmissions to reduce the time where the driving wheels are not powered. Unlike during a normal gear change, in a powershift the driver does not let off the accelerator.
The F20B engine has an 11.0.1 compression ratio, 85 mm X 88 mm bore and stroke, and a 7400 rpm redline. The H-series DOHC VTEC engines were limited to 7,800 rpm. The F20B had a unique blue valve cover and like all the larger displacement Honda engines, the F20B was mounted with a tilt towards the driver.
The 8HP 70 transmission with the gearset 4 in 23-85-teeth-configuration was the pilot series and therefore without generation designation. It was first used in the BMW 7 Series (F01) 760Li, has a torque handling limit of 700 N⋅m (516 lb⋅ft), and weighs 87 kg (192 lb).
The engine was rated at 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp) at 7,000 rpm and 142 lb⋅ft (193 N⋅m) at 5,500 rpm. Moving the gear stick over to the right allowed manual selection of first, second, third, or fourth gear using up and down shift actions. The manumatic feature would hold the gear up to the rev limiter as a manual transmission would.
The sedan was also marketed in parts of Latin America, Asia, Middle East, Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand markets, and also known as the Honda Inspire in Japan from 2003. The North American Honda Accord, with modifications for local market needs, was the launch vehicle of Honda in the South Korean market with sales beginning from May 20, 2004.
