Noel Gallagher has saluted his Manchester rock forefathers Joy Division by covering the band’s classic “Love Will Tear Us Apart” today (June 1) on the BBC Radio 2 series Piano Room.
The album contained previously unreleased songs and live recordings, including a recording of "Ceremony" [10] and a live cover of the Velvet Underground song "Sister Ray". [11] In 1988, the compilation album Substance saw the release of previous non-album singles "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Transmission", among other songs. [12]
The cover features the title of the album in green spelled with characters from Wim Crouwel's New Alphabet typeface below Joy Division's name and the years of recording in a smaller white typeface. The letters used in the title actually spell "Subst1mce", rather than "Substance".
