State Route 153 (SR 153) is a state highway in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It runs from Interstate 75/U.S. Route 74 (I-75/US 74) a few miles east of the I-24 interchange, to US 27 just south of Soddy-Daisy. The route serves as a bypass around downtown Chattanooga for I-75 travelers heading towards US 27 north.
On April 1, 2019, part of the bridge on I-75 southbound over the ramp from I-24 westbound to I-75 northbound at the split in Chattanooga collapsed, injuring one person and blocking traffic for hours. [ 44 ] [ 45 ] [ 46 ] The bridge, built in 1959, is one of the oldest on I-75 in Tennessee, and the interchange is the site of frequent accidents.
As traffic increased in the succeeding decades, the configuration of the Split gradually became inadequate. The ramp between I-75 northbound and I-24 westbound, which reduced from two lanes to one, became a pronounced bottleneck, and sharp curves in the interchange became more hazardous, especially for trucks.

The busiest stretch of highway in Tennessee is on the segment concurrent with I-75 in Knoxville between a connector to US 11/70 and Papermill Road, which had an average daily traffic volume of 218,583 vehicles in 2022.
