Yazoo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, the population was 26,743. [1] The county seat is Yazoo City. [2] It is named for the Yazoo River, which forms its western border. Its name is said to come from a Choctaw language word meaning "River of Death". [3] [4]

The house is notable for its Greek Revival architecture and its significance as one of the earliest African-American-owned residences in the area, continuously owned by the same family since 1880.

Yazoo people. The Yazoo were a tribe of the Native American Tunica people historically located along the lower course of the Yazoo River in an area now known as the Mississippi Delta.
