JAG (U.S. military acronym for Judge Advocate General [4]) is an American legal drama television series with a U.S. Navy theme, created by Donald P. Bellisario, and produced by Belisarius Productions in association with Paramount Network Television (now CBS Studios).
Rival network CBS picked up the series for a mid-season replacement, beginning on January 3, 1997. For several seasons, JAG climbed in the ratings and was on the air for nine additional seasons. JAG furthermore spawned the hit series NCIS, which in turn spun off NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawaiʻi.
The storyline served as the backdoor pilot for JAG ' s spin-off series NCIS with the episodes airing during JAG Season 8 under the titles of "Ice Queen" and "Meltdown" respectively. Chambers is the real-life wife of series star David James Elliott. They were married in 1992 - before JAG started.
