Melrose is a 15,000 square feet (1,400 m 2) mansion, located in Natchez, Mississippi, that is said to reflect "perfection" in its Greek Revival design. The 80-acre (320,000 m 2 ) estate is now part of Natchez National Historical Park and is open to the public by guided tours.
The National Historical Park was authorized on October 7, 1988 (Pub. L. 100–479, H.R. 4457). The William Johnson House was added to it on September 28, 1990 (Pub. L. 101–379, H.R. 4501). As with all historic areas administered by the National Park Service, the park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Melrose, a Greek Revival-style mansion, is one of three properties to see at the Natchez National Historical Park. The historic site is large, spanning more than 80 acres.
By the winter of 1988, the National Park Service established Natchez National Historical Park around Melrose mansion. The William Johnson House in the city was added a few years later. The tours given by the N.P.S. tend to present a more complex view of the past by including African-American history.
