Xtabi is a cove on the cliffs of Negril, in Westmoreland, Jamaica. It consists of a labyrinth of caves and passageways carved from solid rock over millennia of ocean water striking it. [1] An eponymous hotel sits atop the cliffs.
The Jamaican Caves Organisation (JCO) was established in 2002 by Ronald Stefan Stewart (ORCID: 0009-0008-7866-4057), Ivor Conolley, and Martel Taylor, with partial funding and technical assistance from The Nature Conservancy, and the Windsor Research Centre.
The cave contains a large, mixed roost of over 10,000 bats between the second and third collapse points, as well as small numbers of the Jamaican fruit bat near the main entrance. Invertebrates found in the cave include the American cockroach , cave crickets , amblypygids , and the rare onychophoran species Speleoperipatus spelaeus . [ 1 ]
