Namibia gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990, following the Namibian War of Independence. The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) is the national operator of eight of the largest airports in Namibia. It is a fully owned and operated state owned enterprise of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. The NAC is a member of major international airport organizations such as the Airports Council International (ACI).
The ministry was set up to manage 18 profit-driven state-owned enterprises in Namibia. [1] In 2021, the ministry began its transformation into a department, in Namibia the sub-ministerial entity, of the Ministry of Finance. For the state-owned companies, a holding company is to be created, a process estimated to take 5 years. [2]
