The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland (or simply Elmo in Grouchland) is a 1999 American musical adventure comedy film directed by Gary Halvorson (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay written by Mitchell Kriegman and Joey Mazzarino, based on a story conceived by Kriegman.

Meehl was born in Canandaigua, New York, and grew up mostly in Iowa City, Iowa.. Meehl worked on the last six shows of The Muppet Show.He then worked on Sesame Street, performing Barkley, Grundgetta, Telly Monster, and an early version of Elmo, among other characters.
This is the first and one of the few Sesame Street-related productions directly produced by The Jim Henson Company, then-named Henson Associates (the others being the 1989 television special Sesame Street… 20 Years & Still Counting and the 1999 feature film The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland).

For Sesame Street, Bill Barretta originated the role of Elmo's dad, Louie, [10] in 2006. At first, Louie only appeared in a few direct-to-video specials, becoming a regular character later on. Barretta based Louie's voice on Louis Prima's. [11] In 2010, Tyler Bunch took over the role after consulting with Barretta.
