Julian Arts Guild is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 to promote the arts in the former mining town of Julian, CA, in the mountains of San Diego County, California. The group's Julian Arts Guild Gallery , which opened in 2017 in the Julian Historic District, showcases members' artwork. [ 1 ]
Ray Street was developed as a commercial district largely in the mid-1930s. [2] As part of downtown North Park, it helped form one of San Diego's largest business districts in the middle of the 20th century, but the latter half of the century brought the white flight and suburbanization that devastated many urban communities in the United States.
David Owen Dryden (July 1, 1877 – June 4, 1946) was a renowned San Diego builder-architect best known for his craftsman-style bungalows in the suburbs north of San Diego's Balboa Park including the North Park, Mission Hills and University Heights neighborhoods. Most of Dryden's work was constructed between 1911 and 1919.
It is the largest and longest running art walk in San Diego's history. Nearby, the Observatory North Park, a concert venue, occupies the former Birch North Park Theatre, the former home of Lyric Opera San Diego. [14] The historic theater underwent major renovations in 2005. The permanent seats were removed in 2015 for its new use.
The community is a neighborhood of early twentieth century American Craftsman bungalows as well as Spanish Colonial Revival homes and California bungalows built in the 1920s and 1930s. It features a high concentration of homes designed and built by the renowned Arts and Crafts era architect/builder David Owen Dryden.
The Spanish Village Art Center is an art center in Balboa Park in San Diego, California. [1] Anni von Westrum Baldaugh was among the artists who had studio space at the Spanish Village. [ 2 ] Current tenants include the San Diego Mineral and Gem Society and the Southern California Association of Camera Clubs.
