The Jefferson Barracks Military Post is located on the Mississippi River at Lemay, Missouri, south of St. Louis. It was an important and active U.S. Army installation from 1826 through 1946. It is the oldest operating U.S. military installation west of the Mississippi River, and it is now used as a base for the Army and Air National Guard.
The installation was made during a week when the team was on the road. In 2004, Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey installed FieldTurf where the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team plays. In 2007, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, a Canadian Football League (CFL) team, installed FieldTurf in Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field.
The 35th Engineer Brigade was originally organized as the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 138th Infantry Regiment at St. Louis, Missouri, on 17 July 1928. On 1 May 1940, the unit was reorganized and redesignated as the Headquarters Detachment, 1st Battalion, 138th Infantry. It was inducted into federal service on 23 December 1940 at St. Louis.

Assigned 22 October 1946 to the Fifth Army. Activated 19 May 1947 at St. Louis, Missouri. Inactivated 31 December 1965 at St. Louis, Missouri. On 1 June 1959, the division was reorganized as a Pentomic Division. The division's three infantry regiments were inactivated and their elements reorganized into five infantry battle groups.
