In Greek mythology, Hyperion (/ h aɪ ˈ p ɪər i ə n /; Ancient Greek: Ὑπερίων, 'he who goes before') [1] was one of the twelve Titan children of Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky). [2] With his sister, the Titaness Theia , Hyperion fathered Helios (Sun), Selene (Moon) and Eos (Dawn).
In the Shakespeare play Hamlet, the protagonist makes a remark of comparing, Titan Hyperion to a Satyr. [101] In 1903, Hugo von Hofmannsthal adopted Sophocles' version of the story of Electra for the stage. Hofmannsthal adapted his work to become the libretto for Richard Strauss' opera Elekra in 1909.
