Gerard W. Kenny (born July 8, 1947, New York City, United States) is an American singer-songwriter, based in London, England. In 1981, he received the Ivor Novello Award for Best Television Theme Music for his song "I Could Be So Good for You", the theme tune of the ITV series Minder .
The song was included on the following albums released by Kenny: Made It Through the Rain (1979) [4] The Music of Gerard Kenny (1984) [5] In Concert (2007) [6] The song was also parodied in the Beautiful South song "Liar's Bar" in which there was the line "singing: 'whisky, whiskey...so good they named it twice'". [7]
The song was originally recorded in 1979 by its co-writer Gerard Kenny who composed it with Drey Shepperd about a struggling musician who never gives up. Manilow heard the song and revised the lyric with Jack Feldman and Bruce Sussman to make the song about the everyday person's struggles, rather than those of a profession.
