Resale value is generally much lower than replacement value, especially for the more common kinds, quality and sizes of pearls.

Pearl Scholar. What pretty classic cultured pearl necklaces you have there! The G could possibly stand for gold, or more likely the company that manufactured the clasp. That is a widely sold basic style gold "fish hook" clasp which is secure and often used on pearl strands. It's unlikely the initial is related to the company that sold the pearls.
You can certainly put any clasp on any strand of pearls. Of course a gold clasp increases the value of a necklace-- just because gold is more expensive-- but that won't matter until/unless you decide to sell the necklace. Some people might hesitate to buy a good quality necklace if it has a poor quality clasp.
My wife wants a 30" necklace and I'm considering what size pearl is best in a longer Opera length. I am looking at Freshadama from Pearl Paradise in the 7-8mm size, which would be just over $500 for 30". Are there general rules of thumb regarding pearl size to necklace length? Will 7-8mm look too small? Or would 8-9mm or larger look garish?
Pearl Enthusiast. The best thread may vary according to the color and size of the pearls and the weight of the strand as a whole (longer = heavier.) The traditional material of course is silk, which comes in so many colors and thicknesses and has a lovely drape. It also stretches, absorbs skin oils and moisture, and weakens.
Its on a 18 in strand of 9.3mm dyed to look tahitian freshwater pearls. I've googled it & found some pearl jewelry marked PJS but dont know who the maker is? they cost about $90. Anyone have any info on PJS. The pearls have already been id' as dyed freshwater but I am curious as to the maker.
