macrumors 68030. Jan 11, 2002. 2,865. 539. Jan 18, 2014. #12. My 2 year old glasses have crizal alize on them, and they've held up well enough but they're still dust magnets. More curious is my sunglasses, made by the same optical don't have that, and they've gotten scratches from nothing but being inside the case.

  3. Has anyone had problems with crazing on Crizal Alize?

I believe that all Essilor stock lenses are now being made in Thailand. This crazing happens when you have different coefficients of expansion between the lens and the coatings. spazz.

Since the coating is much thinner than the dust / lint, it doesn't get "coated over", it gets "coated around".

Jun 9, 2016. #27. My lenses coated with Crizal are blurred and distorted thanks to the material being defective. since I am past the one year, very brief for a protective coating, warranty, I am forced to pay the $300.00 for new lenses. The Crizal is 'sheeting' or 'running' like waves down the lenses and cannot be removed!

Oversized lenses (or using frame warmers to adjust frames with the AR lenses mounted in them) can also cause crazing. As has been noted, the metallic oxide layers in an AR are exceptionally thin and are not nearly as flexible as the lens substrate. Imagine a balloon with an unimaginably thin layer of plaster on the surface.

The crizal coating is fantastic. Had it over 2 years and lenses still like new. Every other coating I've tried has left my glasses looking like I've run sandpaper over them after a week or two. I will definitely use Crizal when I need too change my prescription, cant recommend it enough. Prev.

  9. 1-year old Transitions with Crizal starting to craze

    www.optiboard.com/.../14474-1-year-old-transitions-with-crizal-starting-to-craze

10-30-2005, 07:23 PM. Hello, The transition lens (high index) with crizal AR coating has shown slight crazing on both lens. It is along the top and bottom edges and can be seen easily when holding it up to a light at an angle. It has not gotten bad enough to make a difference in my vision, so i was wondering a few things:

  10. What is causing a single vision Crizal Avance lens to craze?

Posts: 3137. #6. 10-04-2011, 05:40 PM. Ground lenses are more prone to crazing, due to slight changes in the substrate caused by uneven tool pressure. Heat is the primary cause, substrate changes are the second most common cause of crazing I see. Crizal is more prone to heat damage than other AR's.

Apart from the AR, Essilor base lenses are better made, especially in poly and aspherics. I have non-adapted some patients complaining of peripheral distortion and "fish-bowl" effects in SOMO over to Crizal fsv lenses and solved the problems. Crizal fsv lenses are as good, and in many cases better, than surface Crizal lenses I get from labs.
