Beginning of 2nd grade: Level J Middle of 2nd grade: Level L End of 2nd grade: Level M But suprisingly, most of our 2nd graders surpass these expectations. I had 6 leave 2nd grade reading just below benchmark out of 21 but I had about 4 out of 21 students leave 2nd grade reading just above grade level (Level M-N) and 11 students leave reading ...
We haven't even been in school for a month, and I'm still testing all of my kids. I have this one little girl who, in 1st grade is reading at a 6th grade level. Thanks for the responses everyone! If it was a straight grade 3 class, I would probably feel comfortable reading it, but I do agree that the grade 2s might be a bit young. As for the religious undertones, I teach in a Catholic school so it would have been ok, but thanks for the heads up!
In second grade I had kids reading from 0.5 to 6.0 Most of mine were somewhere between 2.8 - 4.0 at the end of second, so that is a good guess of where new 3rd graders would be.
