In 1924, the Cooperative Quail Study Investigation was born. Led by Herbert Stoddard, this effort was a jointly-funded effort of the Bureau of Biological Survey several landowners in the region. The purpose was to examine cause of the decline of bobwhite and to find a way to reverse the apparent population trajectory.
