Langley Air Force Base (IATA: LFI, ICAO: KLFI, FAA LID: LFI) is a United States Air Force base located in Hampton, Virginia, adjacent to Newport News. It was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the entry of the United States into World War I in April 1917.
The Air Force redesignated the group as the 497th Intelligence Group and activated it at Bolling Air Force Base, District of Columbia on 1 October 1993 as part of Air Intelligence Agency. The group's mission included three main functions: intelligence systems, operations applications, and security and communications management.
Langley Air Force Base is the first half of Joint Base Langley–Eustis and is home to JBLE's Air Force units. With the 633rd Air Base Wing as its host unit, this portion of the base is home to three fighter squadrons, one fighter training squadron, and several intelligence units and other non-flying units.
It is assigned to the Air Force Targeting Center at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, where it has been stationed since 1990. The squadron has earned the Air Force Meritorious Unit Award , the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award , and the Air Force Organizational Excellence Award while stationed at Langley.

It was a tenant unit at Langley Air Force Base, with several outlying support locations. [3] The center was established in 1997 and inactivated in 2013. It had gone through numerous name and organizational changes, but maintained essentially the same mission throughout. From 2002 through 2010, it was aligned directly under the Air Staff.
The United States Air Force's 633rd Air Base Wing is the host organization for Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.Its headquarters are at Langley Air Force Base.The unification of support for Langley and Fort Eustis was directed by the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission.
