In interphase, the cell gets itself ready for mitosis or meiosis. Somatic cells , or normal diploid cells of the body, go through mitosis in order to reproduce themselves through cell division, whereas diploid germ cells (i.e., primary spermatocytes and primary oocytes ) go through meiosis in order to create haploid gametes (i.e., sperm and ova ...
The cell cycle in eukaryotes: I = Interphase, M = Mitosis, G 0 = Gap 0, G 1 = Gap 1, G 2 = Gap 2, S = Synthesis, G 3 = Gap 3. Cell division is the process by which a parent cell divides into two daughter cells. [1] Cell division usually occurs as part of a larger cell cycle in which the cell grows and replicates its chromosome(s) before dividing.
The eukaryotic cell cycle consists of four distinct phases: G 1 phase, S phase (synthesis), G 2 phase (collectively known as interphase) and M phase (mitosis and cytokinesis). M phase is itself composed of two tightly coupled processes: mitosis, in which the cell's nucleus divides, and cytokinesis, in which the cell's cytoplasm and cell membrane divides forming two daughter cells.
Interkinesis or interphase II is a period of rest that cells of some species enter during meiosis between meiosis I and meiosis II. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] No DNA replication occurs during interkinesis; however, replication does occur during the interphase I stage of meiosis (See meiosis I ).

A pair of sister chromatids is called a dyad. A full set of sister chromatids is created during the synthesis phase of interphase, when all the chromosomes in a cell are replicated. The two sister chromatids are separated from each other into two different cells during mitosis or during the second division of meiosis.
