The Greater Boston Food Bank in 2021. In 1974, Tiernan began to distribute food to people experiencing food insecurity. In that first year, she distributed 100,000 pounds of food out of the back of her station wagon. In 1979, Tiernan started the Boston Food Pantry, which she modeled after the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Feeding America is a United States–based non-profit organization that is a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other community-based agencies. [3]
