Wayne County School District (WCSD) is a school district headquartered in Monticello, Kentucky. [2] It serves Wayne County . On June 30, 2013 Monticello Independent Schools closed and was merged into Wayne County Schools.
The school district became insolvent in 2012 [2] and Bill Estep of the Lexington Herald-Leader described the district as "troubled". [3] On December 17, 2012, the Monticello schools board voted for the Kentucky Department of Education management of their schools which was expected to result in a merger with Wayne County Schools. [3]
