Note I : Answer all questions in this paper will have to be attempted in English only. Paper IV: Essay ( 200 Marks/ 3 hours duration) Candidates will be required to write two Essays. One topic will pertain to Indian Society/ politics/ Economy/Development, Growth, and related aspects. The other topic will pertain to security and related matters.
The written examination consists of two papers: Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). Both papers are objective type and are conducted on the same day. The Mathematics paper evaluates the candidates' mathematical aptitude, while the GAT paper assesses their English language proficiency, general knowledge, and reasoning abilities.

The Combined Medical Services Examination or the CMS Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment as Medical Officer in various organizations such as the Central Health Service (CHS), Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, New Delhi Municipal Council functioning under the Government of India.
Candidates qualifying at all three stages are included on the examination's final merit list. The maximum score is 1300. The personality test is an interview which assesses the candidate's suitability for a career in public service by a board of unbiased observers. The interview also assess social traits and interest in current affairs.
The examination awards negative marks for wrong MCQ answers. Usually, 1/3rd of original marks will be deducted for wrong MCQ answers (i.e. -0.33 for wrong One-mark answers and -0.66 for wrong Two-mark answers) while there are no negative marks for MSQs and NATs. Also there is NO partial credit for MSQs and NATs.
