Pittsburgh Public Schools is the public school district serving the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and adjacent Mount Oliver, Pennsylvania. As of the 2021–2022 school year, the district operates 54 schools with 4,192 employees (2,070 teachers) and 20,350 students, and has a budget of $668.3 million. [ 3 ]
Currently, the building is the Waldorf School of Pittsburgh, a part of the larger Waldorf education movement. Students in the architectural studies program at the University of Pittsburgh, led by their teacher Jeff Slack, researched and wrote the first draft of the National Register of Historic Places nomination form in 2008 and 2010. The schools below were built under the sub-district system and taken over by the Board of Public Education in 1911. [1] [2] Some sub-districts gave unique names to each school, while others used numbered schools (e.g. Colfax No. 1). The school board renamed all of the numbered schools in 1912.

1941 - Kimberton Waldorf School is founded in Pennsylvania. 1942 - High Mowing Waldorf School, a boarding high school in Wilton, New Hampshire opens. 1947 - The Waldorf School of Garden City is created as part of Adelphi University. Three more Waldorf schools were founded in the 1950s, and five in the 1960s.
