Cranialsoreus. 11-17-2020 10:40 AM. Aluminum trailer wheels vs. steel? We're about to buy our first boat, putting the order in any day. But now, as we're really at the outer limit of our budget, we learn the trailer comes stock with steel wheels, but we can upgrade to aluminum. Boat usage will be about 60% fresh and 40% salt water.

There are a number of benefits to the Radial design for the trailer operator. 1) Softer, smoother, quieter ride 2) Improved fuel economy 3) Flat, wider footprint for better tire wear 4) Runs cooler than a bias ply, minimizing risk of a blowout on the highway 5) Longer tire life 6) Better tracking – Improved sway control The main benefit for ...

Re: Best boat trailer security. The best defense is to make your trailer (and your other stuff) a “hard target”. The point is that most thieves will go for the easy stuff to steal, so the harder it is to get your stuff the more likely they will go someplace easy. First buy an extra ball at Walmart $5.00.

Look at the sidewalls of the tires inside and out. Jack up rack one and spin the tire and look in the treads with a bright LED flashlight. Often if the trailer stayed in one spot a long tine you’ll find cracks on the part of the tread that was on the ground. So if you don’t jack it up and spin it you won’t see the cracks.

01-24-2006 09:04 PM. RE: Best Boat Trailers. I am selling a Magic Tilt trailer for a 29 to 34 foot boat. It is a tri-axle aluminum with drum brakes on the front axle and is in good condition. My 31 Contender spends most of its time on a boat lift. The price is $3900 and I can be reached at drksuh@mindspring.com.

tcpip95. In the Travel Trailer/Fifth Wheel world Goodyear Endurance and Sailun tires are the best. I pulled the “China Bombs” off of my TT and replaced them with the GY Endurance and have not had any problems. They seem to be much better built to handle the scrubbing that double axle trailers impart on tires.

  8. Moving up a tire size on a trailer - The Hull Truth

Re: Moving up a tire size on a trailer. If you're keeping the same boat on the trailer and can fit larger tires, I see no reason why the load rating of the axles or the bearing sizes matter. In theory, a larger diameter tire can exert marginally more leverage on the bearings while in sharp turns on a tandem axle trailer.

  9. Trailer Jacks? (for changing tires) - The Hull Truth

    www.thehulltruth.com/trucks-trailers/665100-trailer-jacks-changing-tires.html

A scissor-jack might be a better option than a bottle jack, but requires that you lay on the ground to place it under the axle and raise it to make contact with the axle. Again, the base on a scissor-jack is very limited. A small floor jack for roadside tire changing on a single axle trailer is a good investment.
