Lăutarii, a 1995 Moldovan stamp. Lăutar, according to the DEX ("Dicționarul Explicativ al Limbii Române" — "The Explanatory Dictionary of the Romanian Language"), is formed from lăută (meaning "lute") and the agent suffix-ar, common for occupational names.
