Aries (♈︎; Ancient Greek: Κριός, romanized: Kriós, Latin: Ariēs, lit. ' ram ') is the first astrological sign in the zodiac , spanning the first 30 degrees of celestial longitude (0°≤ λ <30°), and originates from the Aries constellation .
By definition, Aries starts at the First Point of Aries which is the location of the Sun at the March equinox. The precise date of the Equinox varies from year to year but is always between 19 March and 21 March. The consequence is the start date of Aries and therefore the start date of all the other signs can change slightly from year to year.
This results in the originally unified zodiacal coordinate system drifting apart gradually, with a clockwise (westward) precession of 1.4 degrees per century. For the tropical zodiac used in Western astronomy and astrology, this means that the tropical sign of Aries currently lies somewhere within the constellation Pisces ("Age of Pisces").
Aries contains several stars with extrasolar planets. HIP 14810 , a G5 type star, is orbited by three giant planets (those more than ten times the mass of Earth ). [ 59 ] HD 12661 , like HIP 14810, is a G-type main sequence star, slightly larger than the Sun, with two orbiting planets.
However, the addition of the elemental qualities of the seasons results in differences between the fire signs. Aries being a Spring sign is wet (hot & dry, hot & wet), Leo being the midsummer sign gets a double dose of hot and dry and is the pure fire sign, and Sagittarius being an Autumnal sign is colder (hot & dry, cold & dry).
