WebP is a raster graphics file format developed by Google intended as a replacement for JPEG, PNG, and GIF file formats. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, [8] as well as animation and alpha transparency.
The Quite OK Image Format (QOI) is a specification for lossless image compression of 24-bit (8 bits per color RGB) or 32-bit (8 bits per color with 8-bit alpha channel RGBA) color raster (bitmapped) images, invented by Dominic Szablewski and first announced on 24 November 2021.
an image that is not rectangular can be filled to the required rectangle using transparent surroundings; the image can even have holes (e.g. be ring-shaped) in a run of text, a special symbol for which an image is used because it is not available in the character set, can be given a transparent background, resulting in a matching background.
Metadata – An image may have metadata stored in EXIF or XMP formats. Transparency – An image may have transparency, i.e., an alpha channel. Color Profile – An image may have an embedded ICC profile as described by the International Color Consortium. Animation – An image may have multiple frames with pauses between them, making it an ...
The software mainly consists of a number of command-line interface utilities for manipulating images. ImageMagick does not have a robust graphical user interface to edit images as do Adobe Photoshop and GIMP, but does include – for Unix-like operating systems – a basic native X Window GUI (called IMDisplay) for rendering and manipulating images and API libraries for many programming languages.
Other image attributes that can be stored in PNG files include gamma values, background color, and textual metadata information. PNG also supports color management through the inclusion of ICC color profiles. [23] bKGD gives the default background color. It is intended for use when there is no better choice available, such as in standalone ...

Use the lowest bit depth that can handle all colours in your image, although some image editing programs cannot create 2-bit colour images. If you are converting an image with many colours (perhaps because somebody saved the original as a JPEG, avoid this ) to a PNG, you may want to reduce the number of colours at the same time; see Wikipedia ...
