Hillsong United (stylised as Hillsong UNITED or UNITED) is a contemporary worship collective originating from Hillsong Church. Since forming in 1998 out of the church's youth ministry, the group has released fifteen live albums and six studio albums. Band members are involved in Hillsong Church services and also play for the church. [1]
Originally he was a guitar player for Hillsong United and soon became United's Worship Leader after Reuben Morgan & Marty Sampson joined the main Hillsong Band. As the members grew older, United has since transitioned into a band with currently an eleven-member fixed lineup of Hillsong musicians as well as a focus on studio albums compared to the Worship and Young & Free ministries. Many past LUKAS members have gone on to become part of the main Hillsong Worship band and Hillsong United teams including Paul Mabury (drums), [12] Harrison Wood (drums), [13] Simon Kobler (drums) [14] and Matt Hann (bass guitar). From the late 1990s until 2019 he featured on the United Live albums and was one of the original Hillsong United band's worship leaders. Sampson's main instrument is the guitar although he also plays the piano, flute and drums. Aside from work for Youth Alive and Hillsong United, Sampson has issued solo albums.
