Universal Volcano Bay Water Theme Park, or Volcano Bay, is a tropical-themed water park at Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida.Owned and operated by Universal Destinations & Experiences, Volcano Bay replaced Wet 'n Wild as Universal Orlando Resort's only water park, the third theme park overall and it was the first water park constructed by Universal Creative.
Volcano Bay is the third (and first ever) 27-acre water theme park opened in 2017. It replaced Wet 'n Wild , which was owned by Universal. Wet 'n Wild was founded in 1977 by SeaWorld founder George Millay as one of the first major water parks.
When guests enter Volcano Bay, there's always a mad rush to claim beach chairs, which are set up on the park's main sandy beach area and in other areas throughout the destination.
The new water park consists of 18 attractions, including slides, two lazy rivers and raft rides. The park includes two volcano themed rides: the Ko'okiri Body Plunge, a 70-degree-angle, 125-foot water slide; [10] and the Krakatau Aqua Coaster, a canoe ride traveling among the peaks and valleys of the central volcano in the park. On June 17, 2015, it was confirmed that the park would close on December 31, 2016, to be replaced by a new water park, Universal Volcano Bay, which opened across the site on May 25, 2017. [ 19 ] [ 20 ] [ 21 ] The park permanently closed on January 1, 2017, and was demolished in early 2017.
