Regulation and licensure in engineering is established by various jurisdictions of the world to encourage life, public welfare, safety, well-being, then environment and other interests of the general public [1] and to define the licensure process through which an engineer becomes licensed to practice engineering and to provide professional services and products to the public.
In 1974, the Health and Safety at Work Act laid down general principles for the management of health and safety at work in Britain. [2] This legislation, together with the establishment of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Health and Safety Commission (HSC) (now merged), led to more emphasis being placed on occupational safety and health by UK employers from the mid-1970s onwards.
