In the 1970s and early 1980s he held the chief meteorologist position at WATE-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee. [2] In 1982, he joined The Weather Channel as one of the original on-camera meteorologists. His specialties include satellite and radar interpretation, short range forecasting, weather observing, and tropical meteorology.
The CW 20 News at 10 originated from WATE's studios in Camp House on North Broadway in the city's Old North Knoxville section. Starting on January 1, 2017, sister station WVLT-TV took over production of WBXX's newscasts from WATE which include the morning (7–9 a.m.) and prime time 10 p.m. newscasts.
Later that year, a two-hour morning show produced by WBIR-TV was also added. [24] Prior to producing the WTNZ newscasts, WBIR had produced a 10-minute 10 p.m. newscast for WBXX-TV (channel 20); WATE-TV took over those duties from WBIR and expanded that program to a full 35 minutes. [25] A half-hour 6:30 p.m. newscast from WBIR-TV was added in 2017.
