BBC Radio 4 is a British national radio station owned and operated by the BBC. [1] The station replaced the BBC Home Service on 30 September 1967 and broadcasts a wide variety of spoken-word programmes from the BBC's headquarters at Broadcasting House , London .
The frequencies it used for these programmes on FM in 1955 are still in use today. On 17 April 1966, it became the first BBC transmitter to broadcast in stereo, with regular stereo broadcasts on the Third Programme from July 1966. On 18 December 1970, it began broadcasting Radio Medway (now Radio Kent) on 97.0 MHz.
O'Connell joined the BBC in June 2016. He presented the business news on the Today Programme, interviewing chief executives from the UK's FTSE 100 Index. O'Connell was previously the Business Editor of the Sunday Times, [3] where he broke a series of stories. [4] He joined the newspaper in 2001, and was promoted to Business Editor in 2010.
