Named after the Scottish village of Dallas, in Moray, after which a number of places worldwide are named. Dallas County was established in 1846 and the city of Dallas was set as the temporary county seat. Thomas Danforth (baptized November 20, 1623 – November 5, 1699) was a politician, magistrate, and landowner in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. A conservative Puritan , he served for many years as one of the colony's councilors and magistrates, generally leading opposition to attempts by the English kings to assert control over the colony.
On December 17, 1874, he married Ida Prince, and they had a son, Edward Danforth, and a daughter. [1] In 1878, he removed to Bainbridge, N.Y., where his father-in-law was President of the First National Bank. There, Danforth practiced law in partnership with George H. Winsor, and was President of the Corporation of Bainbridge. [3]
