Ford Modular engine. The Ford small-block (aka Windsor V8) is a series of 90° overhead valve small-block V8 automobile engines manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from July 1961 to December 2000. Designed as a successor to the Ford Y-block engine, it was first installed in the 1962 model year Ford Fairlane and Mercury Meteor.
The CC8S is powered by a supercharged Ford Modular 4.6–litre DOHC V8 engine made of cast aluminium with 4 valves per cylinder and carbon fibre covers weighing 210 kg (463 lb), with a compression ratio of 8.6:1. It produces 664 PS (488 kW; 655 hp) at 6,800 rpm and 750 N⋅m (553 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,000 rpm.
The 6.2 L (379 cu in) V8 is the main variant of the Boss engine. The V8 shares design similarities with the Modular Engine family such as a deep-skirt block with cross-bolted main caps, crankshaft-driven gerotor oil pump, overhead cam valve train arrangement, and bellhousing bolt pattern.
Showcased in the redesign was the new Modular V8 engine. First introduced in the 1991 Lincoln Town Car, the 4.6 L SOHC V8 replaced the overhead-valve 302 cu in (4.9 L) small block V8 and was the first of a family of overhead-cam engines that would eventually appear in several Ford and Lincoln-Mercury cars and trucks.
