The warranty on the product I use at work is rated as washes, not years. 150-200 washes. Car washes scratch the hell out of your paint. If you just avoid doing automatic car washes it goes a long way in preserving your paint. My $0.02...if you get the ceramic coating you’ll have to say goodbye to automatic car washes.
Ceramic coating is a subject matter that’s it’s own beast but to answer your question, ceramic is not a gimmick but may or may not be effective depending on the application. Yes. No dealership is going to take the proper time to coat a car. It’s a load of dogshit.
Ceramic Coatings are causation of breach of contract with the case of certain makes and model vehicals until time window is reached of ownership or change order is instituted in the contract i.e. Bugatti, Pagani, Spyker, MansorY, Kossenige. Since you are permanently altering the surface of the automobile.
A quality detailed by me charges $350 for a ceramic coating. It’s one layer of Gtechniq EXO. That’s the price to coat the car. Doesn’t include any prep, wash, etc. So to my point, he’s gotta figure out what the $350 includes. My guess, literally applying ceramic and that’s it. It’s likely listed as individual pricing.
coatings to me are worth it if you want the vehicle to look nice and are willing to pay. An average cermaic =1000 ish dollars for proper work. You cannot use and never should a tunnel brush wash with any coating let alone no coating. You still need to wash it and stuff but since it is a strong coating it should be easier to clean.
Got a local reputable private detailer, for $1.5k, got ceramic coating, interior fabric/leather protection, hydrophobic front/rear window coating, ceramic wheel coating. He had my car for 2 days, till this day, water still beads off the car when it rains and I do very little maintenance, he said the coating will last 5 years, its been almost 3 ...
Optimum Opti-Coat Pro, which is a full SiC ceramic coating starts at $1000 for cars which includes wash, clay/decontamination, 1 polishing step and coating the paint and wheel faces. Additional correction would be more, larger vehicles are more.
Ceramic coating is nice to have and pretty easy to apply yourself. It will make detailing the car much easier. My non-expert opinion is this: Skip the PPF unless paint defects will bother you. Apply ceramic coating yourself every year or two. Neither are necessary to detail your car. Reply reply. dynobot7. •.
no. Great question u/RecommendationNo7879. I have an unlimited exterior wash plan "Sparkling Shine" that costs $39.95/month with Ceramic Sealant and I can get "Exterior #1" $29.95/month without. I've read a few people say it can seal in the dirt if not totally clean first and wonder if it's worth $10.00/month.
You can coat your own vehicle and be just fine for a year or two for under $200. Your specific market will determine how much it will cost for a professional job, but, at minimum, several hundred dollars. now as you dont really fix any issues with the ceramic. Its all in the prep that fixes the issues. Depends.
