Frankfort is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located within Benzie County , the city sits upon the shore of Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Betsie River . The city had a population of 1,252 at the 2020 census .

The original Frankfort North Breakwater lighthouse was built in 1873; the current light was built in 1932 the end of what is now the northern concrete pier at the entrance to the harbor of Frankfort. The Fort Gratiot Light marks the entrance to the St. Clair River from Lake Huron (going south) in the southern portion of Michigan's Thumb.
